Within a few meters from Ano Stavros, the Stratonikos Mountain dominates the area of Strymonikos Bay. Stratonikos Mountain is defined by villages Stratoni, Stratoniki, Stagira, Barbara, Olympiada, the Ano Stavros and the Macedonian Tempe. The highest peaks of Stratonikos Mountain are the homonymous (926 m), Skamni (904 m) and Sougliani (859 m).
The vegetation of the mountain is characterized by primitive forests of ancient oaks, beeches and chestnuts. There are also laurels, hollies, coumaris, plane trees, linden trees and poplars. There are more than 600 species of plants, of which 38 are marked as protected species.
The avifauna of the area includes over 160 species of birds. Of these, there are many rare predators, such as Fidaetos (Circaetus gallicus), Chrysaetos (Aquila chrysaetos).
From Ano Stavros, the visitor has the opportunity to walk to the marked paths, which the Stavros Mountaineering Club carries out with passion and zeal. The past four years, the club has been organizing a mountain running race called Sougliani trail.
